11 Things We’re Doing Wrong and What We Should Be Doing Instead

The things we do on a daily basis did not come from a manual that tells us what is wrong and right. We do these things because we are used to them or because we saw them being done by someone else, but there are many ways to make our lives easier by changing a few steps.

1. Place the eggs inside the refrigerator in their cartons rather than on the refrigerator door.

The egg compartment on the refrigerator door is not ideal because it is the warmest part of the fridge and is constantly opened and closed, which could compromise the quality of the eggs. According to food safety experts, there is a proper way to store products. Eggs should be kept in a cool place and inside their cartons. Always check the temperature of the refrigerator (it should be 39 °F or colder), and the freezer (0 °F).

2. Put your razors somewhere where moisture won’t get to them.

Some people believe that razors are easily disposable after only a few uses because the steel material rusts quickly, but there is a way to save money and extend the usage of the razor. Do not leave the razor in the bathroom or any other moist area because bacteria will grow on it, and steel does not go well with moisture. Keep it dry and away from the bathroom to ensure that it does not rust and that it lasts a long time.

3. Place each slice of bread in a separate plastic bag and place it in the freezer.

To keep bread fresh for weeks, place slices in a separate plastic bag, then remove all the air and seal it tightly. Air and moisture will no longer be able to enter and cause mold to grow. Then place it in the freezer, and it will last for up to 3 months or more.

4. Keep your sunglasses in your chest pocket, with the lenses facing you.

Most people wear sunglasses, especially when it’s sunny and warm outside. When the sun goes down, there are numerous ways to store shades. People usually keep them in the chest area of their shirts, and some keep them in their pants pockets. The best place to store them is inverted in a chest pocket, which will protect the shades and keep them safe without damaging the lenses.

5. To extend the shelf life of any food in jars, turn them upside down.

Condiment food jars, like pickles, could also last a long time by storing them upside down in the fridge. In this way, mold has a hard time growing inside. According to an expert, “By turning the jar upside down, that surface where a mold may have landed when you opened the jar is now squashed against the lid without much air, which will make it more difficult to grow.”

6. Pour the coffee over the cream so you don’t have to stir it.

7. To make the candle last longer, trim the wick slightly.

Long wax wicks create a large flame that quickly depletes the wax, but if you cut the nib every now and then, it will create a small fire that will suffice to keep the room smelling good while also saving a lot of wax for later use. This will save you a lot of money because you can reuse the glass container after you run out of wax.

8. Use coffee cubes instead of regular ice to avoid tasteless iced coffee.

9. To reduce waste, shape your toilet paper into an oval.

The loose end of the toilet paper should be facing you rather than the wall for easier use and to prevent bacteria from lingering on the paper when not in use because it is facing the wall.

Then squish it horizontally until it takes on an oval shape in the center. This is to make it more difficult for the toilet paper to rotate because people tend to grab the toilet paper, and it easily rotates, resulting in waste. More controlled rotation results in less waste.

10. Instead of saying sorry, say that you are thankful for it.

  • Saying “thank you” instead of apologizing for things that don’t need apologies. I’m a chronic apologizer, and it’s helped a lot. For example, if I have a bad day and vent to my husband, instead of saying “sorry for venting and bringing down the mood,” I’ll say “thank you for listening and being supportive.” It puts a much more appreciative and positive light on your relationships! © thegracefuldork / Reddit

11. Season your pans with oil to fill the pores and ensure even cooking.

It is critical to season a new pan with oil. Spread the oil around the pan’s edges, then place it in the oven until the heat lets the pan absorb the oil. Then set it aside to cool and wipe away any excess oil from the pan after it has cooled.

This allows the oil to fill the gaps and pores of the pan, so it will have an even cooking surface. When cooking, things won’t stick anymore.
